LIQUID PENETRANT TESTING
-The liquid penetrant method uses the principle of capillarity and surface tension to penetrate cracks and openings that are open to the surface. Once the excess penetrant is removed, some penetrant remains trapped inside the cracks and openings, and with the use of a developer the indications can be identified.
-Liquid penetrant inspections can be carried out on magnetic or non-magnetic materials, but they do not work properly on porous materials. These penetrants can be visible under normal light or fluorescent, depending on the use of a black light.
-Finally, it should be emphasized that this method can only detect discontinuities open to the surface.
